Does anyone else have any slight balance problems when they leave the water? For me, particularly when leaving open water where I haven't been standing up much, I find the first bit of walking quite difficult. To the point where I have to concentrate to make sure I don't fall over. Is this common? awaiting the response...

Yes, I think this has happened to alot of other people. Sometimes you see people falling over when they're getting out of the water and you think they may be slipping but it's really balance problems. I heard that the reason for it is because when we swim, our bodies are horizontal. Somehow, the body compensates for this. (Blood flow, etc.) When we stand up, the blood flow has to change momentarily, and we may get dizzy. That's why I learned that when you're getting out the water, DON'T just get to your feet and run. Put your feet on the bottom and stand up. JUST stand up. If you feel good, GO! If not, walk slowly or just stand there, till you feel OK. Others might have better explanations. This is just a rough explanation. JIM

Yes, in my case it is caused by the flushing of water in and out of the ear when I turn my head to breathe, creating an imbalance within the inner ear, probably in your case as well. I must wear ear plugs and that takes care of the problem, otherwise I would suffer from severe dizziness.
