Alright. So last time I wrote I tipped the scales at over 300. I'm now down to 245 and I'd like to get more serious about swimming. I have had three right knee surgeries with not much success. I couldn't swim on a consistent basis because, well, it just was too much for me at that weight.
What would be a good starting workout plan in the pool. I don't want to burn out in a month and leave the pool. I am not really sure how to start, but I also don't want to feel like I'm wasting my time by only spending 20 or so minutes in the water.
Thanks.

Good for you for deciding to get more serious about swimming! As you start working out again it is really important that you listen to your body, especially since you have had 3 knee surgeries. You don't want to burnout or injure yourself again. Do you use a pull buoy to avoid reinjury? A good goal might be to add 5 or 10 minutes to your workout each week until you are at your target time, or target yardage. I would recommend long, smooth swims as opposed to trying to sprint or go fast in those first few weeks back.
Also, don't be hard on yourself when getting back into shape! 20 minutes is not a waste of time. According to a calorie burning calculator I found at www.clevelandclinic.org/.../burned.asp, you are burning about 328 calories in those 20 minutes. And you are regaining your feel for the water as well.
