Just getting back in the pool

I've been running quite a bit the last couple of years, running events up to 50 miles. Now I've decided to get back in the pool and maybe even enter some meets. (But no triathlons, absolutely not in the plans). It's been 20+ years since I did organized swim workouts and I just can't seem to remember what to do in the first few workouts. Should I just do a lot of long slow distance or should I do some intervals? Any help and guidance would be appreciated.:help:

Thanks for the link. I decided that I do so much continuous aerobic with my running that I would go ahead and do some intervals. So for my first workout I did a 1000 yard warm up (part of it kicking) then 10X100 with about 10 seconds rest, 200 kicking with acceleration, maybe 100 breastroke kick to test out my knee, and an easy 200 cooldown. An then it was time to hustle so that I could get out of the locker room before the women from the water aerobics class got out of the pool. Now that I know I can still swim (although my stroke falls apart pretty easily), I'll look at some of the workouts that are posted.
