Understanding Some Basic Terminology

This seems like a really great forum, but I am a bit lost (as a newbie rightfully should be) by the new terminology. I'd like to understand the references that people normally use when talking about workouts. I've seen people talk about intervals and 1x50 and so on. If someone could walk me through how you discuss workouts and explain to me how to interpret the swimming workout site that people often refer to, I'd greatly appreciate it.

1 X 50 would mean swim 50 meters/yards once; 2 X 50 swim a 50 twice. An interval is an amount of time. If the interval is 1:15 you swim the distance required, then if you have time left over you get to rest until the 1:15 is up. Repeat the swim Sometimes you will see something like R :10... that means swim the distance with with a 10 second rest inbetween. Lainey
