So we have a "swim rant" thread, but I wanted to post my "swim happy" moment today, probably brought on by being out of the water for over a week.
Pool reopened after maintenance + clear, fresh perfect temp water + 6 lap lanes between 4 lap swimmers = 4200yd :bliss:

On Tuesdays I like to do a hard 200m. The last three Tuesdays saw 3:05s. So I'm happy to be at 3:04 today. :)
I'm dreaming of sub3min by the end of August. Then I have about 8 months to figure out how to double that.
I SHALL be at sub6min 400m by next April!!!
Oh Man, I'm so happy with my new 800m PR of 13:12, down from 13:20 last week. That 13:20 was HARD, and I didn't think I'd want to even try to improve on it anytime soon. But I felt good at 13:20 pace early in the swim today, so I just rolled with it, and sped up.
13:12 = 2 x 6:36 400m. Surely my 6:27 PR is soft!! :)
Finally!! Sub 18sec for 25m. 🙂
I've done low-mid 18sec many times. I even dove-in a few times and still got 18sec. (I must have been doing it wrong.)
But today, pushing off, I found a way to get to around 17.5sec.
I'll never win any medals in sprinting (or distance, for that matter), but this makes me very happy.
Now, when can I be in the 16s?
Oh Man, I'm posting too much in this thread. Sorry. I'm just too happy!! I'll try to do a weekly report, starting next week. :)
Today I swam a new 100m PR of 1:23, down from 1:24 last week.
Go Skuj & ElaineK! Congratulations on all these best times and wins. That is great to read.
Skuj, I think your progress is really impressive. And the fact you're so happy with it all is even better. Post all you like!
ElaineK, that video is wonderful! You all set the relay up well. Heart-racing to watch, too. :-)
For me, I'm more or less adjusted to swimming LCM workouts. Though since our practice is early am (6-7) I find myself still unable to fully sprint yet since part of me is apparently still asleep. heh! It is all giving me a true appreciation for SCY, my true love. I'm looking forward to our team's hosted yearly local meet at the end of August. It's short-course and I hope to have not only a lot of fun but also some new state records, too.
My swim happy is finally getting back under :44 on the 50 breaststroke with a 43.82 at the National Senior Games, my best time since 2014. Then, in yesterday's Mixed Medley Relay, I dropped it to 43.67 after a slow start. (I wanted to make sure I didn't DQ our relay team, so I waited until the backstroker touched the wall before I started to go. No rolling start on this one!) Our team ended up with bronze medals in both the mixed and free relays. Thanks to our freestyler coming from way behind to mow down our competition in the neighboring lane, he touched him out by .08 for a bronze medal. Three bronze medals and two ribbons (5th in 100 fly, my fastest time since 2016 & 6th in 400 IM) at my first National Senior Games! :wiggle:
Way to go Elaine!
Congrats to you happy people. I love to read every post here.
I am happy with my 5-session / 8000m+ total this last week. This is a transition / off-season period, with pool availability somewhat limited this month. Sometimes I have to swim in turbulent waters. (I made a thread about it.) :)
My favourite pool will re-open in early August.
Okay so this isn't exactly swim happy, but it's tied to it. I was so excited to get to spend some time with fellow forum-ite, Elaine K, and her hubby when they passed through Memphis the other day before a trip. We had a fantastic dinner and got to really get to know each other a bit more. Wonderful conversation, not only about swimming, but travel and life in general. It's great to put faces behind the names we chatter with all the time.
