So we have a "swim rant" thread, but I wanted to post my "swim happy" moment today, probably brought on by being out of the water for over a week.
Pool reopened after maintenance + clear, fresh perfect temp water + 6 lap lanes between 4 lap swimmers = 4200yd :bliss:
This happened over the weekend, at a small local meet:
Men's 50 meter freestyle. Fast heat,
Lane 6 ==> Huge, trim, muscular, 28 year old guy
Lane 5 ==> Huge, trim, muscular, 31 year old guy
Lane 4 ==> Me. Short, balding, pudgy 56 year old guy ...
Lane 3 ==> Huge, trim, muscular, 32 year old guy
I'm not kidding. Those guys were huge. Easily 6'5", all of them ... it's my fish, I'll tell the story ... Not an ounce of body fat. Fit, strong, cut, visible six-packs, and huffing like thoroughbreds behind the blocks. 50 is not my event! Why am I here? Am I even in the right heat?
Results,
Lane 6 ==> 30.22
Lane 5 ==> 30.94
Lane 4 ==> 30.03
Lane 3 ==> 30.43
Hehehe. Ok, not the fastest time ever, but it was a good race ...
I like master's swimming! :)
Swam a Master's best 50 Fly (SCM time and converted to SCY) at the Shark Tank meet (Sarasota) this weekend, having only trained since mid-October after minor surgery over the summer. Totally unexpected. Swam a solid time in the 50 Br and Free, too. I made a small adjustment to my head position in fly which is working out well.
Plus I got to meet Karlyn Pipes and attend her flip turn clinic. :banana:
Swam butterfly in a meet for the first time in my life. Not in a masters meet, mind you (that would be too sensible!), but in my uber-competitive Swimming Australia club meet. Coach asked if I had a goal. I gave him a time, with hundredths: the time that would have given me a bronze medal in the 1992 Paralympics. Got it by one second :) Beat 2012 Paralympian Tanya Huebner to the wall in the 50 free, too.
* Note: To put this into context, the 1992 Paralympics Women's 50m butterfly S7 bronze medal time was 51.72. Bronze medal time in London: 36.50. I clearly still have some work to do :)
Swimosaur, YOUR post makes me happy!
My recent swim happy is that I am finally back up to ~5000 per practice again. And I'm getting my speed back. It's been a rough year, but I'm on my way back!

Hey Celestial, that's great! Way to go!!
It looks as if we have switched places. On the 19th, I am having an arthrogram MRI done on my hip. Hopefully, I won't need surgery; I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Meanwhile, I'm operating on three cylinders, since I can't do much in the way of kicking with my right leg. Breaststroke kicking is completing out of the question.
At least I can still swim! :banana: Just don't look for me to "race" at Dixie Zone SCM Championships. I'll be swimming my races, not racing them. (If I must have surgery, it will be scheduled for after December 14th!)
