Swim happy

So we have a "swim rant" thread, but I wanted to post my "swim happy" moment today, probably brought on by being out of the water for over a week. Pool reopened after maintenance + clear, fresh perfect temp water + 6 lap lanes between 4 lap swimmers = 4200yd :bliss:

Last night was the first time I've ever been pleasantly surprised by my time in a competition. I swam an open water 1500m in 22:47. A bazillion times faster than I would have thought possible. Almost nine minutes faster than I swam the same course two weeks ago. I don't even think of people who swim that fast as being the same species as I am. Trying to savor the moment...There aren't enough minutes left in that time to ever make another leap like that.

No, but I'm starting to consider it now! I really couldn't swim freestyle until about 2 years ago. At the time, open water competitions seemed way less intimidating/embarrassing than pool competition. (Here's a post about that: www.watergirl.co/.../give-open-water-competition-try) Nice! I see a mesh bag in your (distant) future. Maybe they'll send it in time for Christmas. You should try one. In my entire life I have done 1 SCM 1500, 1 LCM 1500 and 2 OW 1500s (out of 3 total OW swims!). Actually you might be better to try an LCM one first as there's less turns. I felt very dizzy after 59 flips! If you can do one at a low-key local meet and outdoors, you'll feel right at home. There'll likely be such a variety of times that you may well be amongst the fastest there. I went 22.14 LC this summer and was 3rd or 4th out of the 16 or so swimmers, most were in the 25-30 mins range. Go for it! I do hope the mesh bag isn't too long coming - I could really use one, but won't hold my breath!

:applaud: Do you ever swim it in pool competition? If so your SCM tme would be scary-fast :D No, but I'm starting to consider it now! I really couldn't swim freestyle until about 2 years ago. (Here's a post about that: www.watergirl.co/.../give-open-water-competition-try) Today I hit the 250 mile mark  Nice! I see a mesh bag in your (distant) future. • I do hope the mesh bag isn't too long coming - I could really use one, but won't hold my breath!I made 250 miles on June 9th and just got my bag yesterday. I think orders are placed at the end of the month and then take 2 1/2 months. At least that's what I was told when I ordered my GTD swmsuit earlier this week and it fits the time period it took to get my bag to me. I'd forgotten about the bag so when I got a package from All-American Swim Supply yesterday, I thought, "Wow! That's a quick 2 1/2 month turn around." It is a pretty nice bag though.
  • My recent swim happy moment was playing on the rope swing and going down the water slide after the swim meet this afternoon! :wiggle:
  • Would you be happy swimming in this little creek? www.facebook.com/photo.php :afraid: :badday:

I am heading to that town on November 14th, I hope the mess is cleaned up.
  • George, this is swim HAPPY! Yesterday morning, with only two weeks until the dreaded bubble goes up, 57 degree air, 80 degree water, no wind, priceless!
  • I just received my Go the Distance mesh swim bag today. My goal for the year was initially set at 275 miles, because I swam 262 miles last year and thought it would be a reasonable goal for 2011. I decided to increase my goal to 350 miles, however, after I hit 275. I am now at 305 miles for the year and had my second best month of the year. :D Thanks USMS for the Go the Distance program. It keeps me motivated!
