Our pools were open mid-August until the surge in mid-November. They were only opened then thanks to lobbying by swim coaches and swimmers. Closed now and my local pool says it will not open before 1/1/21 at the earliest. What is happening where you are?
I believe that all PA indoor pools are closed.
Given the 'noreaster yesterday, I doubt many are participating in outdoor swimming.
I hear that there's a group swimming in Montgomery County (outside of Philly) in an outside pool. I told the coach to watch out for ice patches on deck :afraid:
(In Arizona, we swam outside year-round. I remember swimming when air temps were below 20F, when it was snowing, and probably other nasty weather. the water was heated and fine)
Here in Texas the pools I swim in are open. The one nearby is 8 lanes, outside, but they don't let us swim if the air temp is below 32F. It has been close to that a few times (I swim in the early morning), but not quite. Similar to AZ, the lifeguards put tarps on the pool when it isn't in use, remove them when they open. The water is heated and often almost too warm, my guess is 84+.
That said, I feel safe swimming there. If I have to, I'll use the restroom. But I throw on shorts and wrap my towel around my torso, head to my car, and drive home to shower after.
In Austin proper, both Barton Springs and Deep Eddy are open. Not quite normal hours; they don't have enough lifeguards, so one of them is open every day, and I think they both are open on Saturdays. The changing area/showers part of the locker room is closed off. So you can use the toilets, but otherwise not much (I do a quick change to get out of my wet suit after).
I was just at Barton Springs this morning. It isn't usually busy in the off-season anyway, but I'd guess it has been even less busy than that.
Deep Eddy has strict attendance limits; when they are met it is one out/one in. When I swam there recently it was a bit busy and I was a bit nervous. I got in a lane, someone split with me, and that was happening in all of the lanes. After maybe 15-20 minutes, the lane next to mine was vacant, so I moved over and had a lane to myself for the rest of my workout.
NOTE: both Barton Springs and Deep Eddy are spring-fed/freshwater, and neither is chlorinated. They briefly re-opened in early June, then after some consultation, they closed about 2 weeks later. They opened again in late Sep, with strict limits and rules on face coverings (when not swimming).
