Iâ€m really gratified to hear that USMS is approving sanctions beginning in November. That doesnâ€t mean that any and all can swim in a particular meet. Some of us “race horses†are looking for competition. In my area, a team has a sanction for “members onlyâ€...an inter squad meet. So exclusionary events are OK? I live close by, but canâ€t compete because Iâ€m not affiliated with that team. How can this be a USMS event? ....I assume that records and Top Tens will be available to participants. I understand the limitations of COVID, and donâ€t begrudge a team from having an inter squad meet, but if it is in the name of the organization at large, to the exclusion of our members, I must question. Any thoughts?
I hope the vaccines will be available to us soon to help in the health of all of us for future swim meets.
Even then, it will be a different format to be in use for the near future.
Getting back to the main question. I do not think an inter squad scrimmage closed to other USMS members should count as a Meet, or Top Ten times.
Why not?
In 2010, when FINA started recognizing the long relays, Both Rose Bowl and Mission Viejo held sanctioned meets during their workout times and set about 50 brand new World records. You can still find them on top of the FINA record lists. I think that alone is good enough reason to sanction intersquad meets.
You have taken the position of envy rather than the position of support. If a club thinks it can do something for its swimmers by holding a sanctioned meet during these trying times, good for them!
I will just repeat I donâ€t think itâ€s fair to be AA or TT for showing up go a meet in 2019 or early 2020. I know itâ€s said that things are unfair in general, but somethings are too far out. Winners in my age group are at least 2 standard deviations from mean.

Ouch!
3 people in my age group for the 100 free...total.
Check out the women's 55-59 age group. There is only 1 person in the 100 free, 50 free, 50 ***, and several other events. Some of the other events had two. The only event posted for the events I checked was the Good Life Games, where 1 team was represented, and there were 66 swimmers. WHAT A JOKE.
(No, Michael, I am not expressing "envy" either. As a swimmer who only ranks at around the 40% mark in my best event, I would never even imagine myself in the Top Ten-- unless I live to be 100 years old! I am also not envious of others competing right now, since I have no desire to do so until things return back to a safe normal. As a completely objective person on the subject, I think it's a JOKE to even have Top Ten this year.)

I agree to some extent. I think most would have no problems with records being set and kept. Top ten and All-American status is quite another point. Because there is very little opportunity for all USMS members, the issue of fairness comes into play. I suspect what will be done (as it is clear USMS will not make any announcements) is the 2020 LCM and SCM season will be dragged and combined with 2021.

I agree. It's time for USMS to take a serious look at this, and then post their decision here on this thread.
