Butterfly, beautiful to watch, difficult to train.
We SDK off every wall.
We're most likely to smack hands with each other and those beside us.
Fly's fun to sprint but no fun when the piano comes down

Here's a butterfly challenge I've had my eye on for a while. It took me a couple tries but I completed it today.
Saturday main set (1650 fly)
DAVIS MILE, ALL BUTTERFLY
went 23:11
Davis Mile = broken 1650. Swim 275, 10 seconds rest, swim 250, 10 seconds rest, swim 225, 10 seconds rest, ... , swim 25. Subtract 1:40 from running time to get add-up 1650 time.
After failing to complete this set on October 28th, I gave it another shot. I don't think anything was actually different about my ability to finish the set. I was just more motivated today, and I got a dose of positivity during the 200 when I realized that if nothing else, I had made it farther than my previous attempt in which I stopped after the 225.
The degree of difficulty of each swim did not really feel any different to me until I got to the 100. Even though the swims were getting substantially shorter, they didn't feel that way until I was almost done.
I did DPS fly through the 75, and then switched to regular fly for the 50 and the 25.
Masters Minute
550 easy
400 IM stroke drill and out
Congratulations! Now you have to repeat it tomorrow, just to be sure it wasn't a fluke! :D
:applaud:  :chug:

Thanks guys! Things to consider for next time:
Maybe swim regular fly for the last 25 of each swim. Switching styles is refreshing, similar to switching strokes in an IM.
Switch to regular fly at the 75 rather than the 50.
Eliminate the rest periods so it's a real 1650 fly! :anim_coffee:
:applaud::applaud::applaud: Thanks Swimosaur!
Borboleta Records We'll see. I do want to post a 1650 fly time, but I may not be able to travel to that meet, so I might just end up swimming it in a 1650 free event.

I am not so bold as to do it in competition, but it is on my radar screen. I have already decided my target is to break 30:00. Not bold! I will try it in a workout one day.

My 2,000 fly took me about 46 minutes to complete. :afraid:  Go for it, Swimosaur! And, make sure to report it to the Butternuts!

Way to go, TG! I did a 1000 fly back in the spring as I was training for Nats, but haven't done much fly at all since then. I'm picking it back up in January and will definitely give this a shot in the spring!
You guys are killing me. I thought I could be satisfied with 1,000. Elaine, you indeed are a nut. I am so impressed.:bliss::banana:
Thanks, Yosemite! As a matter of fact, I am wearing my Butternuts t-shirt as I type. The back of it says, "Why settle for mildy disturbed when you can be completely nuts?" :ohyeah: Yep, I'm completely nuts!
After my SCM meet on December 15, I'm thinking of how I could cap off my nutty year of being a new baby geezer (50)... :chug:
