Catch Technique

I seem to have trouble with my non dominant arm (right side).  There is almost a dead zone/delay during the first part of my catch with my right hand when breathing to the left.  I do bilateral breathe but I have noticed this issue when breathing on that side. and it is even starting to bother my shoulder.  Has anyone experienced this or have any drills or suggestions to help.

  • Are you saying you don't go EVF?  Fists and hinge would be a couple I would think may help.  If you are just not pulling as early as you'd like, I might b inclined to guess you may initiate your head rotation too late?  If that's the case, when you are swimming easy, warm up, cool down, whatever, try making a point to look for your left elbow to come out of the water.  That helps make sure you are not looking forward, but may also help with timing?
