I'm going to set out to learn and become skilled at backstroke and butterfly. Also, I have set a goal to become very good at 1500 freestyle. I have only swam that distance with flip turns once.
What say you? What are your swim goals for 2020?
My goal now is just to swim in a meet.
I'm not too confident that my LMSC will have any meets this year. Sure if they do have a local meet I'll go. I did one of those last year and it was kind of fun.
It does sound like some open water swims will be happening this year. I've been in contact with the race director of a 10k swim and she said that they wouldn't have any problems distancing swimmers apart (can easily do staggered starts).
I'm registered to do Swim the Suck this fall; I'm hopeful it will happen, but not quite sure.
Thankfully I've been swimming in a local lake. Just 2-3 days a week, about 3 miles each, but it is better than nothing. If it looks like some swims happen, I'll try to squeeze in another day and increase the distance.
Mainly to get rid of my quarantine-15!
Swimming solo a couple of years ago, my split times in the practices put me where I thought an NQT in the 100 fly was attainable. So, I had a goal to start working out occasionally with a team in teh Fall of 2018, but an unexpected death in the family (out of town, and I was executor) killed that. In 2019, an illness that kept me out of the water for nearly 2 months, which led to injuries, and more junk delayed that. So I tried after meeting the Masters coach at a club meet in February. And then the pools got closed.
I'd like to eventually swim in a meet. Somewhere, some time. But who knows when, as we may be visiting colleges for 67Princesses coming up soon.
I've updated my signature. :)
When I first started swimming in Feb 2019, I dreamed of sub 6min 400m at 60. (I'm 57.) I rapidly improved to 6:15 in September, and I changed my goal to sub 6min by the end of 2019. But then came The Great Stall, followed by shoulder soreness and staleness. It occurred to me that I had been going non-stop since Feb, and I needed a break. So I'm dreaming about sub 6min by the end of 2020 now. The seconds got a whole lot bigger!! :)
Lol. Well, this may have changed. :)
Covid actually did me a bit of a favour.....I really did need a break. But, maybe not this many weeks.
My new 2020 goal is rather simple: Break at least one of my pre-covid PRs that you see in my sig!!
(Sig updated.)
Thanks, I'll check that out. My shoulders seem good now.
I should add that by the end of 2020, I'm dreaming of doing other distances at the same level as 5:59 400m. (Basically, the SC WR x 59%.)
So, hopefully a sub16 for 25m, 34.3 for 50m, 1:16.2 for 100m, 2:48.4 for 200m, 12:31 for 800m, 23:57 for 1500m.
Most of these times are roughly twice what I can do now. Ie 50m at current 25m pace, 100m at current 50m pace, etc etc.
This is realistic, right? Swimgods? :)
Lol. Can't. Stop. Laughing.
My goal now is just to swim in a meet.
Yeah, I like this. Just be in a meet.....I don't care how "fast" I swim. Some kind of normalcy is a wonderful goal!!
Looks like most pools will be open with the newly released stagger system of alternate walls per lane so one in shallow one in deep etc. No multiple swimmers per lane. Fortunately its summer so I don't mind coming and going in my suit. Of course we would still have to go thru the office to check in. Have any of you heard anything along these lines? Teams might be able to do more in a lane by keeping swimmers of the same speed two in a lane but not random swimmers coming to a community pool.
