When is 'later this year'?
Usually early September is the last you can comfortably swim in open water, because it gets too cold after that. Barring a late heatwave. Since it's been warm for an unusually long period so far, the chances of it being cold later on in the summer are substantial.
Also, where? Wetsuit? Skins? Training? Competitions?
If you will be in the area where I live, all open water is on paid beaches that are not open when it's not hot.
