Etiquette re: kayakers

I am doing the Lido Key swim this weekend, and it's the first time I'll have a dedicated kayaker. The kayaker is someone arranged by the race director, not someone I know. What is the etiquette here? Should I offer compensation or tip? Anything else I should know?

  • I suggest compensating/tipping your kayaker. My rule of thumb is under 2 hours $100, 2-5 hours $150-200. Over 5 hours $200 minimum. Other suggestions... search the forum there are lots of tips on working with a kayak escort craft. The 2 biggest things to workout are feedings and navigation.
