Donner Lake Swim

Coming up this Saturday. Any sighting tips from DLS veterans?

  • Since it's a long narrow lake, each time you take a breath (bilateral) just make sure you are about equal distance from each side. Also, as long as there are plenty of swimmers on either side, you should be fine. There are lots of kayaks corralling everyone too. As you get closer to the finish the sides kind of curve toward the front and it gets easier to see the finishing banner. Earlier it looks like a postage stamp for a really long time. Is this your first time? It is a great swim; you'll have a blast. I am not doing it this year due to the no wetsuit rule thus time around. I am not a wimp, it's just a little too cold for that length of time. But I did do a solo crossing last month with a few family members in kayaks. We set out early in the morning ("they" are not up yet), and it went well. So I can check off that box for this year. But I'm still a little bummed. Good luck!
