Gashed my right leg open on the middle of the shin bone...six stitches , told have to wait ten days to get wet , but was just amping up for the Coastal Crawl Aug 4th in Harbor Springs Mich....I need to get back in the water , Help.Water proof Ideas?????
I have cut various things off my legs and swam with the stitches I put in without much problem. If there is not dissolvable suture (gut, vicryl), should be ok. Probably will heal better if you do what you're told but unless you are a leg model, who cares. Harbor Springs crawl...I used to do that one over 15 years ago...almost won twice but kept going off course...still a problem of mine. Good luck.

I had a precancer removed recently AND the stitches were removed after seven days. I presume the advisory is your stitches dissolve but ten days? seriously...
You can try SuperGlue or waterproof athletic tape over the injury. But I suggest following your physicians advice or at least getting a clarification as to why you need to keep the stitches/injury dry.
Pure speculation on my part, but I'd be tempted to put a little antibiotic cream on it, then cover that with a layer of Lanolin (for the water proofing, that stuff really stays on). When done with your swim clean off the Lanolin, spray some disinfectant on it and then put another layer of antibiotic cream on.
This is why I love my doctor, who happens to be a member of my swim team. "Here's what you should do. Here's what you WILL do. Here's how to do that safely."
