Has anyone on this forum done this swim before? are there any 'cannot miss' burger joints in the area? is Churchill downs a must? would a guy want to see the bridge Cassius Clay tossed his Olympic gold medal from... yes - I am being stupid, but I am curious where locals, and regular visitors, recommend. keep on swimmin' www.active.com/.../08-10-13---ohio-river-open-water-swim---louisville-ky-2013
Thank you - i'll follow up on both the feed store bbq and 21C. My family will join me in Michigan on the Sunday afternoon following the Swim to the Moon. Look forward to meeting you.
I've done this swim twice. Was thinking about joining you in that and the Swim to the Moon the next day. Family mutineed and I will only do the Swim to the Moon.
I've never been to Churchill Downs so I can't speak about that. I didn't know the Cassius Clay story, but will check it out next time I'm down there. The only Louisville restaurant I can recommend with good knowledge is Mark's Feed Store Bar-B-Q. The swim takes place about 20 minutes to the NE of town, though. If you're in mind to spend a bit for the hotel stay, the 21C in downtown Louisville is fantastic and worth a visit even if you don't stay there.
The swim itself is fun, but an odd course with buoys to the right and the upstream portion of the swim closer to the center of the river making the current more of a factor.
