This March I swam an open water swim about 100 km south of Lima, Peru in a small resort town called Asia.
The swim was delicious. Out to and around an island and back to the beach, about 4 km. There were about 300 people, mostly Peruanos (Peruvian people). They were absolutely the friendliest, most kind bunch of swimmers I have ever met. I also swam Masters with the Aqualab club and we had a swimming meet with five other clubs in Lima.
I am writing this to see if there is any interest in an open water/meet competition week in Peru followed by a week of touring to either Machu Piccu or the pyramids (Huacas) in northern Peru.
The water temperature is very similar to the US west coast in southern California, about 68 F (20 C). There are approximately five or six open water events during the Peruvian summer (January through April) within 100 km of Lima. If you would be interested in a swim vacation with competition in the ocean and Olympic pool in Lima respond to this thread and I will put your name on our list and keep you posted.
