Slam the Dam.....Vegas

If you are smart, and I know you are, you will mark your calendar for next years "Slam the Dam" on Lake Mead in/near Las Vegas. This years event was held Oct. 6th, and was a complete success. The series of races (8 mile, 2.4 mile and 1.2 mile) are held in Lake Mead with the Beach area completely taken over by swimmers and supporters. The water was warm. 81 degrees but did not feel overyly hot, maybe something to do with the dry heat? but I heard no complaints about the temp, and my daughter is usually the first to notice and have problems (she trains in the Pacific) and she felt fine. The race is set up so that you can swim more than one, in fact the "Grand Slam" is for those doing the 8 mile and 1.2 mile swims, with awards for each and combined. My only complaint is that at times I spent more energy looking around at the mountains, etc and not concentrating on swimming...) The course is well marked, I made every bouy and that is something new for me, plenty of support kayaks, great food and fellowship. See you next year!
