I'm considering swimming from Leland, MI to either North Manitou (9.8 miles) or South Manitou (16 miles). I can't find a record of anyone having ever done it. Does anyone here know definitively whether it has been done?
Given the distance and water temperature, I'd like to have it count as my qualification swim for the English Channel. What's the process for getting a swim certified?

Jason Lassen recently tried to swim from Beaver Island to the mainland, but didn't make it :(
I think the Manitou Island might be considered to be part of the same archipelago as Beaver.
