Ideas for Lake Tahoe swim

I'll be in Lake Tahoe for a day this weekend and would like to do a good open water swim. I've never been to Lake Tahoe, so not sure where a good place to go would be. We'll be staying in Squaw Creek, which is the Northwest part of the lake. Anything good around there or is there somewhere else I should be looking. We'll likely hike the Cascade Trail that afternoon, so I guess anywhere along the west shore will work. Also, do you recommend a wetsuit for the current temperatures? Thanks for any advice!

The most convenient place to swim for me was the Commons Beach Park in Tahoe City just north of the 89/28 intersection known at the "Y" (also used by Xterra for their June event). There is a pier just to the south and one about 1/4 mile north with a bike path along the water. I put in at the northern end and swam back and forth between them about 50 yards offshore. The water is 5 to 10 ft deep and absolutely clear. Wetsuit definitely recommended. See www.tahoesbest.com/.../parkbeach.htm for this and other options
