Hi swimmers,
I have a 2 mile ocean swim this weekend and a 2.4 in much colder water the following weekend. Any suggestions on how to handle the days leading up to the events? I am planning to do my regular four masters practices this week, rest this Fri, and then the same the following week. Or? What do you eat, do etc before your "big" swims?
Thank you!!
I'm not really qualified to answer the first part re: training, could only say what I would do, which depends on whether I am racing or just swimming it to finish. If the former, I'd do all four masters, but I'd drop down the distance, just get in and spin the arms some, try and get a decent effort swim but nothing longer than say a 300.....
As for food, depends on how long it will take you. I usually do the coffee/bagel thing before our weekly two miler. If it takes around 1-1.5 hours, you don't need much topping off, as you likely have enough glycogen stores to last that long. If it is going to take > 1.5 hours, might need something more substantial
