Anyone doing this? 8/19. 12.6, 10K. 4.8, 2.4 and 1.2 distances. Have to come into the beach every 1.2 miles (for the 10K and shorter) for "medical" reasons, and go over a timing mat, although last year in the 4.8 no one said boo to me.
Makes the swim both harder and easier. Harder because coming in and out of the surf zone is tiring, but easier as your shoulders get a bit of a break and you get some nutrition in on land.
Doing the 10K this year and got a bit panicked thinking I was behind training schedule. Been upping the OW swims the last few weeks, but yesterday swam a solid 4 miles, and wasn't destroyed afterward. Granted, it was not fast at a 1:34 pace, but feeling better about the 10K. By far (by about 2X) the furthest I've ever swum non-stop.
Unfortunately, I am going to Hawaii right before the race, so will have to do a bunch of training in that horrid warm water... /sarcasm
