open water championship rules?

Here's a question I hope some one can help me with: I am planning on registering to swim the Lake Lure 1 mile open water swim in August. The site says"One event registration is not allowed in National Championships". What does that mean exactly?

Yes, as opposed to the one day usms registration fees that you find at some events for $10. Enjoy the swim :)
