Has anyone done the Miami swim (Nike Miami)? I would like to sign up for this ast my first 10K. I called the organizing company yesterday and they were very nice, but not very knowledgeable about the race. Any insights from anyone who has done it? The woman I talked to thought it was a 5 lap course but wasn't sure. Also, this would be my first 10K. Can you eat during it? I was thinking of bringing a gel or two, but without water to wash it down that might be kinda yucky. I don't know how that works on a long swim. I have a really fast metabolism, and after a couple hours of exercise I pretty really hungry and sluggish if I don't eat something. thanks for any advice.

Thanks so much for the comments, and thanks for the race report links, evmo. You're fast.
It looks like this will work for me for a first-time event, especially since location and temperature and two of the biggest factors. Now to get training more. I'm worried about the cutoff time. In the pool my 5K is about 1:40, but in open water it's more like 2+ hours because I go crooked and take more time when sighting. I am pretty determined to make this happen, though.
