Has anyone done the Miami swim (Nike Miami)? I would like to sign up for this ast my first 10K. I called the organizing company yesterday and they were very nice, but not very knowledgeable about the race. Any insights from anyone who has done it? The woman I talked to thought it was a 5 lap course but wasn't sure. Also, this would be my first 10K. Can you eat during it? I was thinking of bringing a gel or two, but without water to wash it down that might be kinda yucky. I don't know how that works on a long swim. I have a really fast metabolism, and after a couple hours of exercise I pretty really hungry and sluggish if I don't eat something. thanks for any advice. • I've done it twice, in 2010 and 2011. That shouldn't necessarily indicate I thought it was worth doing again after the first time. It was mostly an excuse to get out of the upper Midwest in early April and visit a friend who lives in the area. My race reports are here (2010) and here (2011). Don't count on the organizers providing in-race hydration/nutrition. In 2010, there were volunteers offering tiny little paper cups of water & Gatorade (shot-glass size, like dentists provide after they brush your teeth). So you had to take like 10 of them to get enough liquids. In 2011, I learned my lesson and recruited a friend to hand me feeds at the dock. Good thing, because I don't even think they had volunteers & tiny paper cups, so people without a coach or friend were S.O.L. Overall, I can't say I recommend it. But there's not much else going on OW-wise in April, so if you live nearby you might as well....
