Has anyone done the Miami swim (Nike Miami)? I would like to sign up for this ast my first 10K. I called the organizing company yesterday and they were very nice, but not very knowledgeable about the race. Any insights from anyone who has done it? The woman I talked to thought it was a 5 lap course but wasn't sure. Also, this would be my first 10K. Can you eat during it? I was thinking of bringing a gel or two, but without water to wash it down that might be kinda yucky. I don't know how that works on a long swim. I have a really fast metabolism, and after a couple hours of exercise I pretty really hungry and sluggish if I don't eat something. thanks for any advice. Here is the event link: miamisportsinternational.com/

I've done it twice, but not since 2008 and they've changed venue since then. It was a 4 loop course when I swam it. Very boring course so I assume the new venue is better. They had a drink stop set up on a small pier so you could have something on each lap. I'm a slow 10k so I put 2-3 gels down the side of my suit and just wash them down with water or gatorade at the stop. I assume they'll have somewhere to get a drink at the new race venue. I'm really thinking about doing it again this year, though I vowed a while back never to do a 4 loop 10k before......
