Has anyone done the Miami swim (Nike Miami)? I would like to sign up for this ast my first 10K. I called the organizing company yesterday and they were very nice, but not very knowledgeable about the race. Any insights from anyone who has done it? The woman I talked to thought it was a 5 lap course but wasn't sure. Also, this would be my first 10K. Can you eat during it? I was thinking of bringing a gel or two, but without water to wash it down that might be kinda yucky. I don't know how that works on a long swim. I have a really fast metabolism, and after a couple hours of exercise I pretty really hungry and sluggish if I don't eat something. thanks for any advice. Here is the event link: miamisportsinternational.com/

I haven't done it, so I don't have much insight regarding feedings, but I can tell you that there are no restaurants or bars there on the water. There's a restaurant at the Miami Yacht Club, which is where the race starts, but my guess is that it's for club members only. The only other thing on that side of the island is Jungle Island, which might have views of the race from there, but they'd have to pay a $33 entry fee to get in. One other thing I just thought of: I drove by there when I was home for the holidays, and most of Watson Island is torn up because of construction on the Port of Miami Tunnel project. So that could make things interesting too. All of that said, I'm almost positive I'll be flying home for my mom's birthday a few days before the event and will likely be doing the 4K race (I'm not sure my shoulder can handle 10K at the moment). I know my old age-group team sends a group to the race each year; I can email the coach and ask him for more details. If I learn anything, I'll let you know!
