Has anyone done the Miami swim (Nike Miami)? I would like to sign up for this ast my first 10K. I called the organizing company yesterday and they were very nice, but not very knowledgeable about the race. Any insights from anyone who has done it? The woman I talked to thought it was a 5 lap course but wasn't sure. Also, this would be my first 10K. Can you eat during it? I was thinking of bringing a gel or two, but without water to wash it down that might be kinda yucky. I don't know how that works on a long swim. I have a really fast metabolism, and after a couple hours of exercise I pretty really hungry and sluggish if I don't eat something. thanks for any advice.

Sorry about my typing on that first message...I'm not used to this keyboard.
Thanks for the tip on the feeding station. I didn't know that sort of thing existed. The race company said outside vessels are not allowed on the course, only their lifeguards. My long-distance suit is more like a short/sleeveless tri suit, so I have a couple little pockets and I can stick some gels in them. That's worked on my 3-4 mile swims.
I also wonder if there is a spectator friendly place to watch. I know watching this sort of thing is not super exciting (esp me, i'm slow), but my family and boyfriend want to watch. I figure if there's a bar or restaurant on the water that would be more fun for them.
