Has anyone done the Miami swim (Nike Miami)? I would like to sign up for this ast my first 10K. I called the organizing company yesterday and they were very nice, but not very knowledgeable about the race. Any insights from anyone who has done it? The woman I talked to thought it was a 5 lap course but wasn't sure. Also, this would be my first 10K. Can you eat during it? I was thinking of bringing a gel or two, but without water to wash it down that might be kinda yucky. I don't know how that works on a long swim. I have a really fast metabolism, and after a couple hours of exercise I pretty really hungry and sluggish if I don't eat something. thanks for any advice.

I don’t know specifics about this event. But, in general hydration is crucial in any race 7K or longer. And depending on the individual, nutrition (calories) becomes a factor around 8-12K.
Personally, I would not enter a 10K, unless they provide feeding stations or allow personal escort craft. Is see the course map for this race looks like there is a water/feed station near the start finish line, it would be in your best interest to find out feeding logistics.
It looks like an interesting event. I need to put it on my to do list.
