By my count, there are six organized swims of 25K (15.5 miles) or longer in the United States next year:
- the Tampa Bay Marathon Swim
- the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim
- Swim Across the Sound
- the Ederle Swim
- a new 25K in Pensacola
- and, the various stages of the 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim.
You can add another to that list. September 8, 2012, Phil White and the Northeast Kingdom O.W.S. Association (the folks behind the Kingdom Swim) will put on a 25-mile swim in Lake Memphremagog between Newport, VT and Magog, Quebec. That's right - you get to swim across an international border. :canada:
For more info, see the official website. The field is limited to 20 swimmers.
As you begin planning for next year, let me also remind you of my U.S. Marathon Swim Calendar, which includes all organized swims of 10K (6 miles) or longer. I've been adding 2012 dates as they become available.
I'm going to piggyback a bit and remind folks to get their registrations in for the July 7, 2012, 10-mile event in the same lake. 51 of 75 spots are taken.
Dang, would love to do that event, but the soonest we'd be back in the states (if the service sends us back there) would be mid- to late-July. I'm doing Swim the Suck in October, so I'll be looking for a close 10K sometime btwn our return and the TN race. Perhaps the Potomac river 10k?
Echo the thanks Evan. I use your US marathon list in my planning. I hope to update my European one soon.
