By my count, there are six organized swims of 25K (15.5 miles) or longer in the United States next year:
- the Tampa Bay Marathon Swim
- the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim
- Swim Across the Sound
- the Ederle Swim
- a new 25K in Pensacola
- and, the various stages of the 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim.
You can add another to that list. September 8, 2012, Phil White and the Northeast Kingdom O.W.S. Association (the folks behind the Kingdom Swim) will put on a 25-mile swim in Lake Memphremagog between Newport, VT and Magog, Quebec. That's right - you get to swim across an international border. :canada:

As you begin planning for next year, let me also remind you of my U.S. Marathon Swim Calendar, which includes all organized swims of 10K (6 miles) or longer. I've been adding 2012 dates as they become available.

So much more enticing than another round or six of Big Shoulders (a fine swim in itself, but how many times does one need to swim over that half-submerged grocery cart?).
I had a lovely Sept. swim in the Saco R. in NH couple years back. Water is starting to cool down. And Canada - well, polar bears, Hudson Bay, similar exotica.
I gather passports will be needed, as for crossing the English Channel?

Added: I'm going to piggyback a bit and remind folks to get their registrations in for the July 7, 2012, 10-mile event in the same lake. 51 of 75 spots are taken.
