I am swimming a 2-mile (possibly 4-mile) swim in Lake Michigan the end of July. I have swam this course before but later in the year. The water temp now is 68 degrees. Would a tri-suit help or not worth the money?

No. Triathlon suits don't provide any warmth. But 68 degrees is pretty warm.
