I found this stage race by searching google, as it is not, apparently, USMS-sanctioned.
Looks great. I also did some searching here and see that chaos did this stage race in 2007.
Looks incredibly fun. If I make it back to the states in October, I may try and tack on some vacation days to do this race. One possible sticking point is the need for a kayaker in one of the lakes. Chaos, did you need one in 2007?

I know Keith and Sandy well. Was a member of their team, Team Texas, back in the 90's when they were still involved in USMS. Did the Cap 2K swim in Austin this past May. They put on great OW events. Try the "contact us" link on their website. www.americanswimmingassociation.com/

this is a fun event. i participated in '07, '08 and '09. they will have kayakers for lake buchanan, which is the only one of the lakes where there is a chance to get off course. keith and sandy are awesome and i look forward to catching up with them which unfortunately won't be this october as i have secured a spot in the ederle swim in nyc oct 16.

only the Lake Buchanan stage requires kayak support... it is an out-and-back swim that can stretch to five miles...
Austin is a wonderful place to visit, and the hill country is a special place.
there is both a monster- - 5 stages; Wednesday through Sunday - and mini-challenge - 3 stages; Friday through Sunday.
This looks interesting to me. I'm looking for a 5 k in October, and this might fit the bill. Mike, please let us know if the organizers respond.

I don't know him personally, but I do know of him. He was a kick-ass distance freestyler in my AG when I competed in Maters in the 1980s
Yes, the race director wrote me back. They do have volunteer kayakers, they just ask that you inform them early if you need one, and prepare to support your kayaker by supplying them with a t-shirt and maybe other goodies.
Still hoping for a free Uncle-Sam sponsored trip back to the states in October so I can participate in this. Fingers crossed.
