Kingdom Swim

Yet another well done Kingdom Swim this year in Newport. The support there, particularly the local kayakers, is excellent. I can highly recommend this race to others. Hopefully some others who were there will confirm. www.kingdomswim.org
  • The site looks great! I wish there had been something like this when I lived up there...It's on my list of "maybes" for 2011. Congratulations!
  • I enjoyed Kingdom Swim thoroughly (or at least quite well). A grassy hillside debouches onto a sandy beach, and one has a view of the town and hills across the lake as the swimmers come in. A food tent offered sandwiches, burgers, and fruit smoothies at modest prices; another org sold chocolate brownies and pastries for 50 cents. It was a pleasant place to hang out and talk, eat, lie on one's back and watch the clouds sail by overhead. I am glad the meet director is capping the number of swimmers at something reasonable. I met swimmers I would most likely not have met at a larger event, including some folks from CIBBOWS. :)

I really have had a great time at these swims. We camped on the hill right above the beach, it was super convenient and allowed us to hang out and enjoy some of the other activities the town had happening, There were bands and a street dance, fireworks and a swimmers parade among many special events. The biggest hit with my boys was the log rolling all afternoon at the beach. I will certainly go back next year, I'm thinking of making the jump the 10 mil swim. Although, rumors of adding a 6 mile swim for next year abound.

This is a very well run event (weekend) and was the perfect setting for my first 10 mile swim. Phil and all of the other volunteers do a wonderful job in organizing the event and really welcoming you to their area. Great finish Kevin and thanks for all of your help and encouragement to give this one a try.
