I have seen pictures of floats that look like a balloon inside which one can put in his dry clothing, then tie the float to his body and swim across a river, never having to return to the starting place to change clothes. Has anyone used this kind of things?

Yes, that's it! Thanks for the link. Have you or anyone else used these things? Seems very useful--gives you freedom to swim anywhere.
