In wetsuits and swimming hats, 217 swimmers made their way from Pendennis Point to St. Mawes Castle. On hand for the festivities was former Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies. Various stories online:

I'm really happy to see ppl taking back lakes, ponds, waterways, oceans for recreation and enjoyment, even if it is all organized now. (Altho' Britain did repopularize wild swimming with Roger Deakin's book on breaststroking waterways the length of the Isle.)
In other words, not something to put on one's swim schedule unless one 'appened to be over there at the time. SwimTrek has an Isles of Scilly swim, in the same area, so you could do both, probably.
