June 19 in Beaufort, SC. Beautiful setting and city. Swim is 5k WITH the tide and take "about" an hour so (give or take). My buddy, Carlton Bruner, is one of the title sponsors and I had a blast last year doing it. I hope to make it back this year, but its only a week after Key West so we will see. www.active.com/.../4th-annual-beaufort-river-swim-2010

Well, I'm really not training for OW per se....at least not yet. I'm focusing on Master Nationals right now. Once that is over I'll concentrate on OW for awhile. I just got an email today from a "coach" that has a group, mostly triathletes, that is starting back up next month with OW swims at one of our local lakes. Water is like 52 right now, but should be in the upper 60's I'd think by next month. Very cold, but doable, for us Southern folk....I think! To train for Key West I should go to the local YMCA, its like 85 there! I'm doing KW as part of a relay so it won't be all that long.

Relays sound like a blast. Never done one. I'd like to do a relay for MIMS one day. Any interest? I'm slow so I'll need fast people to counter the damage I do :bolt:

I've kind of committed to try to put together a "college alumni" relay or two next summer at Key West. Some of my college teammates from S. Carolina are keen on the idea of having a relay, party, reunion weekend around the event. Plus, I'm turning 40 right around that time! We'll see?!

It was AWESOME. It was so cool to see NYC that way and it was like one day-long floating swim-fest. We did it as a 4 person relay (we won that division), so we each got about 2 hrs in the water. I don't think I'd want to do it as a 6 person relay as there isn't enough swimming time. A 2 Person relay would be fantastic, I bet. -LBJ

3-4 folks would be more than enough. I could swim the whole thing or half, but not sure how fast/competitive I'd be with the top of the class. I need more experience at the longer distances. I know I can put together a good/decent 5-10K.

I know I can put together a good/decent 5-10K. who knew there were so many mercenary swimmers among us? just reviewed the details for the trans-tahoe relay swim... teams require 6 persons - 2 and 4 person relays seem much more enjoyable... 6 person relays simply can put one out of the water for an extended period of time.
