While some hardy open water swimmers are braving sub-50°F water and a few really committed cold-water acclimatologists are toughing it out in sub-40°F water, there is an alternative for those who want to get in a good, competitive very early season 5K race against good competitive elites and a wide range of masters swimmers.
The 5K Acapulco International 2010 Swim offers 1K, 1.5K and 5K races on January 23rd in the Mexican resort. Last year, the event drew nearly 500 swimmers from FINA pro marathon swimmers, age-group swimmers, budding triathletes and competitive masters swimmers who swam across the Acapulco Bay on Mexico's west coast.
The event is offering a great hospitality deal and a SwiMetrics test (www.SwiMetrics.com), the same stroke analysis test used by Olympic medalists and world-class swimmers.

Steve! Ok, next year this might be a good goal....lets see..if I swim 100 every day for the rest of the year, that will get me to..353 x 100 = 35, 300 right?
That should get me ready! Truthfully, what a great way to combine a vacation with just a tad of fitness. Thanks!
