Ok, so the more they email me, the more I get nervous about the water temp. Last year it was 69 which stung to get in, but it made for a nice swimming temp. By the end, though, my fingers and toes felt a little numb, but that could have been tired (??).
But this year, it could be up to 10 degrees colder?! What to do when the coolest water I can find here in Cincinnati is 80?

Yep! I was at Oak St early in the morning and it was 67 degrees and pretty calm. Beautiful!
I wish I were there!
Swimming thru the winter in the Pacific ( 55 degree ), sans wetsuit,..I bring a one gallon plastic jug of hot water that I pour over myself after I get out. It works wonders.
According to Phil Dodson's thermometer it was 66 degrees at Ohio Street Beach this morning. My guess is that it was closer to 65 degrees when you got away from the beach. It was a little choppy, but when I turned back at the breakwater I could clearly see the orange buoy 1/2 mile away. It was a little overcast so the rising sun wasn't a distraction.
Truly sublime conditions! I'm looking forward to next Saturday.
I think that it is best to swim with a partner of the same ability so that if you get hypothermic you will have someone to help you.i live in Florida and have gotten cold in water a lot warmer than 65 degrees. The first sign is confusion-you may feel cold and want to get out but won't because you are confused. swim with some one who can keep you going in the right direction.
Bobinator, I also swam in a 75 degree pool yesterday with two caps. I really think swimming with two caps makes a huge difference in the cold water. I do not have a B70 nero, but plan on wearing my Tyr Short John. I am hoping that will keep me warmer than the usual tank suit.
