Ok, so the more they email me, the more I get nervous about the water temp. Last year it was 69 which stung to get in, but it made for a nice swimming temp. By the end, though, my fingers and toes felt a little numb, but that could have been tired (??).
But this year, it could be up to 10 degrees colder?! What to do when the coolest water I can find here in Cincinnati is 80?

57....not sure I would make it. it was 60-61 that last time I was out with out a wetsuit and after 30 minutes it felt like something was pounding on my biceps and upper chest. total swim time was 60 minutes, about 45 minutes later i was at home on the sofa and still felt cold!
there is the after drop effect. getting dry and out of the water will not warm you up, and indeed your core temp can continue to drop after your swim.
try the old vaporizer trick.... pot of boiling water, towel draped over head, inhale the steam. it will warm you from the inside. (or jump into the sauna)
