Hi all,
I'm visiting my mother in Texas next week and, because she knows I love to swim in the ocean, she's planned a day at the beach in Galveston. My only OW experience has been in La Jolla Cove. What can I expect in Galveston by way of sea creatures, water conditions, etc? Are there sharks?

The water will be extremely warm (upper 80's), very little wave action. The water is pretty clean but will look muddy from the silt. You always have the possibility of sea creatures as you would in any body of salt water (jelly fish, seaweed, fish) but shark attacks on the Texas coast are quite rare.
