Just a heads up to anyone within striking distance... The Hazleton, PA YMCA is having their annual "Beware of Barracuda" open water races on 8 August. They have races of 200 yards, 500 yards, 1650 yards, and 2 miles. You can even "stack" 3 races if you want because only the 1650 and 2 mile are concurrent. (I did this the last two years - it's great fun, albeit tiring fun, as the races are one right after the other.) This is in a very clean lake in a beautiful mountainous setting. It's also a great place to bring the family as it has a nice beach/swimming area and playground. Well organized, inexpensive entry fee, good medal awards, food after and a really nice, low-key atmosphere. As a huge bonus, there are lots of younger kids from the Y swim team who do the 200 and/or 500 and I think that makes the event even more fun. But wait, there's more! As a super-duper bonus, you could even meet ME... OK, maybe that's not such an incentive... How about I promise NOT to go if you will? For anyone within reasonable driving distance, this is a great alternative to some of the "usual" races in this part of the world. The link: www.ymca-ywca-of-hazleton.org/.../race.htm -LBJ
