Smelling Underwater

Okay, being a chef for life has something to do with this. As I swim I am always taking a little water into my nose. I have noticed as I cruise over and through different types of weed beds , bass beds, clear water and near wooded shores I can smell the difference underwater. I also know now that I have allergies to some sea weeds... The other day I could smell the Bass before I reached them... there they were , about five feet down ,just suspended a foot over their dished out beds. Some weed beds smell so strong I want to hold my nose.:fish2: I wonder if we have some electric receptors like pike do that we don't know about.

Wow, cool. I notice different tastes/smells in the water from day to day, but I can't distinguish anything particular. I do find that while I'm swimming, smells on the surface are much more distinct - motor oil, fuel, burgers cooking on the shore; it's like they're right next to me.
