Does anyone have a recommendation for an OW swim during Jan-April that's not in Hawaii? I'd prefer February or March. I'm already thinking of next winter's vacation.
Leonard, yeah, not exactly what I had in mind. :laugh2:
Heather, fellow Maine-iac here. I would love to do a SwimVacation but am not interested in going for 7 days without my family. I'd love it if they would offer 4-day trips.
I posted this some time back and don't remember the details, but somewhere in New Jersey they have 200 and 400 races in the winter in the ocean.
Of course that may not be what you had in mind...

Hi slknight,
I am an open water swimmer in Maine and I work with SwimVacation as a guide, photographer and marine naturalist. I went on SwimVacation last December, and loved it so much that I joined the team.
It's a great week living aboard a luxury trimaran in the BVIs. We do 2 open water swims a day, at a distance anywhere from 1-3 miles, depending on what everyone feels like doing. One of the mottos for SwimVacation is "Your Distance at Your Pace" and it's really true. We are set up to guide swimmers of all abilities to a fulfilling swimming vacation. The accommodations are stellar, and living on board gives us the versatility to travel to wherever the conditions are best that day. We swim over coral reefs and amazing schools of fish, sea turtles, etc. There's also plenty of recreational activities to do when we're not swimming, and guests are free to participate as much or as little as they like.
We also have clinics on stroke mechanics and race strategies, and slideshows about the local marine life for those interested. It's really a great time.
You can see more information about SwimVacation on the website at http://www.swimvacation.com . We currently have a trip scheduled for Nov '09 with spots still available, and I think more are planned for winter / early spring of '10. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about it.
Hope that helps!
best,
Heather
There appear to be a few Caribbean races on the Swim Jamaica calender. (Not all are in Jamaica.) At least one seems to have been between January and April this year, so maybe they'll hold it again next year.
