my first 50km week since ´96 while getting ready for first O

I've had a busy June. Raced my last pool meet for the summer June 5-7 and then two weeks off to rest my shoulder. but June 22-28th, together with a friend, I swam 50km. it was the best swimming week as a master swimmer yet. we did two-a-days, swimming at 7:00 and 16:00. started off slowly with 2.4, then 3.6, then a series of 4's and 4.4s had a goggle accident one morning and only got in 1.6km, but made it up with 4 x 5. I don't remember the exact order of the swims, but I remember the feeling of the last 5km swim knowing that we had made it to 50k in 13 swims. the week after I only got in 22km, mostly because I couldn't get a partner every day and this week I only swam monday and today, 6.4km total. Going to rest my shoulder wednesday and thursday, and then this weekend will swim a 5km (roughly 40 starters) on friday, a 1km sprint (over 150 starters) on sat , with a 3km race (over 5700 starters) on sunday. there are 3 other races that weekend with a total of 9729 registered starters. water temp is over 20C that is proving to be the reason why so many at taking a crack at the 3km. last years total starters was 8500 with 4700 in the 3km. the goal for the weekend was 9000, but with 3 days left to register it looks like they might get 10,000 starts. Hoping my 50k week helps me recover faster with less than 24 hrs to recover between swims.
