The new Aqua Zone Portland Mile will offer $25,000 in cash and prizes to competitors in a downtown mile race in the Willamette River. Some of the world's best professional open water swimmers will be there (all masters in age) to compete for the $5,000 first prize. First place in the 20-29 age group (both male and female) will receive $400 and a Aqua Zone Renegade technical swimsuit (FINA-approved). First place in the 30-39 age group (male and female) will receive $600 and a Renegade swimsuit; 2nd place will receive $200 and 3rd will receive $100. First place in the 40-49 age group (male and female) will receive $600 and a Renegade technical swimsuit; 2nd place will receive $200 and 3rd will receive $100. First place in the 50-59 age group (male and female) will receive $400 and a Renegade swimsuit; 2nd place will receive $100 First place in the 60+ age group (male and female) will receive a Renegade swimsuit. Additionally, there is a $500 cash prize for the swimmer who is closest to their predicted time. In case of a tie, the oldest athlete wins. The reason why the 30-39 and the 40-49 age groups receive a larger cash prize is because these age groups have the greatest number of entrants and, therefore, theoretically, it is hardest to win among more athletes.
