Hi Folks- does anyone have any advice about (swimming in) Lake George? Anecdotes, science, whatever. If you have experience there, I would like to hear about it. THANKS!

two summers ago there was a series of masters, usa swimming, and pro races held in lake george. i had never swum there before, and was impressed and inspired by the water quality and size of the lake. it is true that there can be considerable recreational boat traffic on the lake, but there are some guarded beaches and unlimited opportunities to swim long distances if you are willing to provide your own support.
  • I was there too and the water was excellent. I wish they had that Open Water Weekend again. Such a great opportunity to do more than one race in a weekend, and to see incredible Marathon swimmers do their thing. As I remember, the water was a bit chilly, but clear and lovely otherwise. We camped and that made the weekend even more of an adventure. My husband and son kayaked while we were there, and felt okay in terms of the boat traffic. People were generally pretty courteous, and I agree that if you stuck by the shore, and had a support boat, it would be great fun.
  • If not with the pack, please have a support boet.
