Hi there,
I'm a masters swimmer (and relative newcomer to runnning) looking to do a couple of aquathlons this summer. The race I'm targeting is in August in NC, and the water is supposed to be in the mid-70s. I'm looking for some advice about what might be a good suit choice.
The race is a 1500 meter lake swim and a 5k run, so I'd rather not wear a wetsuit (because I don't think it's necessary for warmth and I don't want to lose the transition time taking it off).
I normally race regular meets in Speedo Fastskin (I) legskins or jammers, but I I figure if I could find a suit that covers the torso but not the calves (a short john, I guess) I'd be better off for the run (and it might be a little warmer if the swim is cold).
The two options that jump out at me are:
a) The Tyr Tracer Male Short John
b) the Speedo FSII Male Unitard with front zipper
The Speedo's front zipper might be easier to loosen if it gets hot on the run. Speedo also makes a unitard with a back zipper and "padding," but that seems more appropriate for a race that includes cycling.
Does anyone have recommendations on either of these, or something else? Are FSII and Tracer comparable for speed in the water? Is the front zipper a big asset?
There are other tri-suits out there; I just know TYR and Speedo and trust their products. But being a swimmer, I want something that's fast in the water and not cumbersome while running.
Alternatively, I guess I could just race in a regular jammer...
Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
