I posted a few weeks ago looking for an OWS in the daytona area. Since I was staying in Orlando it was suggested I try Lucky's Lake Swim. Good thing i looked into it. The winds in florida last week would have made it rather hazardous to swim the beaches. I stated before I left that I would update on the swim.
I originally planned on swimming teusday, however, a bad case of Mickey's Revenge (stomach flu) had up ended my entire week. As my family and I were headed back to Ohio Friday morning I decided to squeeze it in since I felt better. I really wish I would have joined Lucky on Teusday. I would have swam every morning with them. At first I was really apprehensive about pulling up to a strangers gated home at 630a. Once I pulled in I realized it was rather welcoming, and that was just the other swimmers. I walked down to the dock in the dark and got ready to hop in. Lucky came on down and was very welcoming. Myself and about 10 others walked in headed across a dark lake sighting a distant living room lite. Very cool I thought. Water temp was about 70 at shore, a bit cooler out in the lake. Very refreshing after a week of no workouts. The lake is 100 meters out and back...watch out for ducks:) After I got back I was happy to see that Lucky and some others were doing a few laps. Let me say how wonderful it was to open it up a little and have company. So that's the swim.
Afterwards all are welcomed to come up to the patio and sign the Wall of Fame and get yourself a bumber sticker. Pretty cool that that this guy does this right? Well, my wife and I were talking with Lucky a little and I have to say, This is one truly kind and unique person. He made myself, and my family feel so welcomed at his home at 7am on a random friday because that's the kind of person he is. My kids have a new love for yo-yo's thanks to Lucky. What a great experience. I recomend it to all who are in the area.

Thank you for posting this. I hope you'll be able to return and do a few more crossings!
From the FAQ:
5. Is this a race? No it's a open water swimming cult thing. If you can't figure out why you would want to do this swim then no amount of explanation would make you understand.
:)
Thanks for the info. My wife and I will be in Orlando around Memorial Day and were looking at that site for a possible swim. I think we will definitely give it a try. I am also planning to do the Ed Gaw 5K on May 23.
Everyone should have "Lucky's Lake Swim" on their to do list. There are not too many opportunities to write your initials on the back wall of someone’s house (after you complete the swim). Most important though is you get to spend time with a truly remarkable and giving gentleman -although a little eccentric.....I mean he has a lot of personality:)
Looks fun, love to do this swim in the future. The midnite swim looks wild - they should screen PIRANHA or definitely ALLIGATOR instead of JAWS though.
